in this semester , only philosophy class have blog. At philosophy in education class, all student was tested and assessed in a blog with forum, give idea and opinion, quiz and student can get marks if they participated in the blog. The blog also provide notes for student, student also can provide their notes that have in other place to share with friends.there had information for what they have to do in the next class, chat box also provided so that they can contact each others. Every student had marks if they participated(based on philosophy class) and if the faster student answer the Sudoku, more marks they get.when I am teaching in class.. After 1 chapter have done, I will test my student with quiz and test. Based on their result, I can know they understand or not. In class, I will ask my student question when teaching. while teaching i am use technology such as using media material like video, games, song, so that my student not boring in my class. I use puzzle in doing mathematics.
I think test and assessment fun because without test and assessment student and teachers do not know how far student understand what their learn and what teachers teach. With test and assessment school can know their achievement between another school. It can make school do improvement for the school.

ReplyDelete1. a) The function of testing and evaluation are to test and assess the student’s level of learning in their studies. The students are tested and assessed to identify the limit of observing the knowledge and answering back when being asked in class or in exam. Students are being tested and assessed because the government wants to know the students achievement of gaining knowledge and to develop a world-class quality education system which will realize the full potential of the individual an fulfill the aspiration of the Malaysian nation.
b) The structural view is an organization chart created by the government; Ministry of Education. The ministry will test and assess the students according to the student’s age and grade. In Malaysia the first stage of the exam/test is UPSR, for primary level which is for standard 6 students. Secondly, PMR for lower level student in secondary school which are for form 3 students. Thirdly, SPM for upper level student in secondary school to which are for form 5 students. Lastly the toughest exam in school level is the STPM test. This test is for the form 6 students which determine whether the student is qualified to enter University.
2. Students can be tested and assessed by questioning them according to the topic that the teacher taught them in the class. Based on the answer that the student give, the teacher can see the level or how understand are them about the topic or the question. We have central based assignment and school based assignment. So the teachers can test and assess students according central based assignment like UPSR, PMR, SPM, and STPM, or school based assignment is like monthly exam, assignment, observation in class and group activities. Besides that, we can assess and test the students by giving them an individual project or project work to them. Project work can be done in groups or in pairs. For an individually-based research project, the process is very much the same. However, the individual student is responsible for all the stages of the project and this can be a burden. The focus is on self-assessment or the learner is responsible for giving him/herself a grade based on performance. Not only that, students can be assessed in informal way like observation. This is based on the teachers’ personal view or opinion of the students. According to the teachers observation to test the students we can have attitude test. In addition the students can be tested and assessed by doing IQ test.
3. Tests are an instrument of systematic procedure for obtaining and describing one or more characteristics of a student, using either a numerical scale or a classification scheme. Assessment is a process for obtaining information that is used to make decisions about students, curricula and programs, and educational policy. The aim of tests and assessments are to monitor student’s achievement, make important decisions about individual students such as graduation from high school. Tests and assessment are also administrated as part of national and international surveys (National Assessment of Educational Progress)Malaysian examination council (MEC) is a statutory body under the ministry of education (MOE). 5. Major national examination in Malaysia are UPSR, PMR, SPM and STPM. UPSR (Ujian Penilaian Sekolah Rendah) is a exam that did by the standard 6 students in primary level. The students will register for 5 subject.PMR (Penilaian Menengah Rendah) is an exam did by the form 3 students in secondary level. The students will register for 7 or 8 subject. SPM (Sijil Penilaian Menengah) is the exam did by the form 5 students and they will register for 9 to 12 subject. Finally STPM (Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia) the third toughest exam in the world is an exam did by the form 6 students and the students will register for 4 subject.
6. In my class I and my friends are assessed by giving lots of question to be answered. Either my lecturer will ask us to do research about a topic and will ask us to bring the research to the class. Based on the research the lecturer will give some question and we will sit in group and will write the answer on a paper and pass it up in the class or will post in the blog. In the blog we can comment about others point or views about certain topic or will post the question in the blog and will ask us to answer in the blog within 1 week. An interesting part is my lecturer will not lecture like other teacher with using slides or text book but she will lecture spontaneously. Means when she asks us to do research about a topic and bring that research to the class and she will ask us about what we understand about the research and then she will explain to us what is all about. Moreover, there will be interaction between the lecturer and the students. There is teacher-centered and student-centered philosophies will be used in the class.
When I become an educator in future I will ask my students to read about that topic before enter the class and will do some activities in the class based on that subject. when the students know what are they going to learn in the class they will enter the class with knowledge, so when the teacher explain further about the topic the students will actually understand better and can answer any question that thrown by the teacher in the class. Indirectly I can assess the student. In addition I will ask my students to do presentation of a topic. When they need to do presentation of certain topic they need to read about the topic so that they will have more exposure of the topic. So the teacher can test the student how confident are they in presenting in the class and can satisfied the teacher and other students. The teacher can test and assess the student when they can really make others satisfied and can answer their question.
Why not? I can make the test and assessments fun through quiz. We should assign quiz for the students. The quiz shouldn’t be the written individually but by answering them orally in a group or else. Plus we can do pop quiz. We can have fun by assessing and testing the students with games. For instance, the teacher is going to test the students listening skills, she/he can distribute incomplete lyric of a song. Then, she/he must play the song and the student will listen the song and fill the incomplete lyrics. From here, the teacher can assess how good are the students listening skills.

6. In this semester, philosophy in education is taught in different way which is blog. I have never seen this before or from other lecturers. This blog is really useful for students to gain more knowledge about philosophy and it also provides more notes and other student’s opinion. Quizzes and forums are also posted in this blog and we need to answer or post comment in the blog itself. And there is also has chat box to share our opinion among the students. Students have the chances to post comment on class presentation, discussion and more. We can also improve in using blog, which is interesting.

ReplyDeleteQuestion 1
The functional view of testing and evaluation means what the student get in school unitl they finish their studies. In other words, can say the values of education the student get. Normally the students have exam to assess and evaluate their ability of understanding the subject. When the teacher mark the students answer paper, the can know the outcomes of students. It will make the leaning process in class run smoothly. For example, if students never pass in their exam, the class teacher can change the teaching skills and it will make the learning process run smoothly.
The structural view of testing and evaluation means the exam which organize in school or university. For example UPSR for primary school, PMR, SPM, STPM for secondary school and exam in higher education. The school organize the exam for assess the student, to know their ability of understanding the particular subject. If the students pass in the exam, the teacher will continue the teaching process, if fail the teacher will teach the subject again.
Question 2
Exam
The student can tested and assessed by exam. Normally in all schools have exam system. The exam system is one of the rules under Ministry Of Education. In school we have monthly test, where after finish 3 or 4 chapter. They will evaluated the student whether they understand the subject. In my opinion, after the teacher teach each chapter, they have to be test the student by exam. Then the teacher can evaluate the student and teach again the area the student cant understand.
Q&A (Question and Answer)
The student also can be tested assessed by O&A section. Normally for each teacher the school will give 40 minutes to teach the students. So the teacher can teach the students for 30 minutes and another 10 minutes can be Q&A. The teacher can ask the students question and they have to answer. Then the teacher can easily test and assessed the students.
Discussion
The students also can be tested and assessed by discussion. The teacher in class can divide the students in group after they teach their subject. Then ask them to discuss about the chapter they study. Then the teacher have to approach the students, and ask some question. From their answer the teacher can assess the students. Then the students also can ask their teacher about the area they don’t understand
Rugnesvaran@RK
ReplyDeleteQuestion 3
There have some aims of tests and assessments. First is to evaluate the students understanding on the particular subject. For example, the school will be have a monthly exam. The school want check the students understanding about the subject. After the teachers mark the students answer sheet, they will announce the marks. The students will know the marks, and they can correct their self. Then the teachers also can guide the students in specific area.
Other than that, for check the students competencies also is on of the aim of tests and assessments. The tests and assessments for students can check their competencies in understanding the teaching method. Normally some students will don’t understand some subject because of the teaching method. Some teachers will not use the effective teaching style. Its will make bore for students. Then the students will not concentrate to their study. From this tests and assessments the teachers can improve their teaching skills.
Apart from it, to improve teaching skills also aim test and assessments. Normally the all teachers will use their teaching method when they teach the students. Some teachers will never use effective teaching skills. Its can find when the students tested. So here the teacher have to find the students problem and have to overcome their problem.
Beside that, to make the students get better result in their national examination also one of the aims of tests and assessments. When the students tests and assessed in their monthly exam, they will know their abilities or competencies. So then they can improve their self, in particularly area. Then in their national examination they definitely can get good result and archive their dreams.

6. In philosophy class, the lecturer used different ways to tested and assessed the students. The students need to do their own research based on the task given and do group discussion among the group members. During the group discussion, the lecturer will ask question to all students in a group. If the student able to answer the questions they will be, get marks. In other side, if the students fail to seek the answer, the lecturer will ask questions until the students get the answers. Indirectly the students start to use their critical thinking to answer the questions.
In addition, the lecturer gives them to change to share their ideas, and develop their hidden skills. These different approaches of learning help students to learn independent and help the students to remember the subject very well. In the other hand, the students was tested and assessed in a blog with forum, give idea and opinion, quiz and student can get marks if they participated in the blog. The lecturer also provide notes via blog for student, student also can provide their notes that have in other place to share with friends. There had information for what they have to do in the next class. There is a place to communicate with friends and the lecturer using the chat box. All students given opportunity to make a comment and help them tot improve their skills. If i become an educator I will using the same methods as my philosophy lecturer using such like create the blog, do quizzes, forum, debate, group discussion, ask the students to do research before I teach the subject, and make sure all of the students actively participant in the blog. In addition to make the testing and evaluation to be more fun I will use various non-written exam such like debate, forum, acting to the students. These methods not only help students to gain knowledge and marks but also help them to show out their hidden talents. As we know, education is on-going process so, as an future educator, it is my desire to help students meet their fullest potential that help them in future to be more independents.

ReplyDelete-I will practiced few methods in testing and evaluating my students. First of all, I will evaluate my students by conducting own prepared examination that’s will be checked base on contents and not fully followed answer sheets. Students need to answer my question in structure form to ensure they can bring whatever they have in their mind. Sometimes students understanding can create new ideas and or answers that’s really logic and can acceptable. So that the marking scheme should base on theory only but also must be based on understanding. Their marks will expose the reality of their self. Other than that, I also will test and evaluate my students based on their feedback. Feedback is an important task in process of learning and teaching. Its also express the students understanding and outcomes of teaching process. Moreover I also will apply some methods like quizzes, questionnaire and surveys base form of question to evaluate the students. Basically this three task are simple to answer. If students are really good in answering question by this format means the lesson have and effective outcomes. Surprise quizzes without any announcement also will be practiced by me to evaluate the students. Apart from these methods, I also will apply two way communication in order test and evaluate my students. Communication is an important task to expose student ideas and opinion. I also will organize individual presentation, group discussion, debating to ensure students communication is not breakdown and lead them to think creatively and critically.

ReplyDelete-Yes. Of course regarding ,Malaysian education system, the education should develop cheerful environment to produce an effect full individuals whom can contribute to the unity of Malaysian and developing of family, country and nation. Now a days, Malaysian students are always attack by examination fever. They feel that examination is really touché ring. Basically in secondary school, students need to sit for examination about four times compare the students whom going to be sit for public examinations more than that. Its really make the students mentally disturbed and its could affect their health condition and results. To overcome this problems, I think that test should not disturbing or affect students achievements but can make its as fun as possible to ensure the outcomes are really good in order. Schools can conduct two times only of examination in a year that, once in mid of year and another one at the end of year. Apart from this two times of examination schools can conduct other examination in presentation base forms or quizzes base forms to make test and assessment are fun. Other than that, indicating colorful pictures, into examination papers and creating cheerful environment of examination wall also make the test as fun as possible and its lead to students achieve flying color results. Apart from this examination, quizzes and presentation base form test and assessment also should conduct in free of order without any rules and regulation to encourage students creativity.

The functional view of testing and evaluation are very important because as an educator the method that we used is determine the level of the student either they can understand or not. Besides, teacher can use more technique to test their student such as public speaking, quiz, forum, presentation, debate, role play and many kind of method that can make student become interesting and fun. From this way, I’m sure they can achieve their own goals and automatically the functional of teaching successfully.
The structural view means is the way that teacher use is only focused to refer the textbook, doing multiple choice exam and power point slide in the class. Meaning that, these method can make student become more bored easily because they only listen whatever the teacher teach in the class.

For us information, there are many types of the way that student can be tested and assessed. There are research and group discussion, giving pop quiz and exam, role play, and through debate. Firstly, we talk about research and group discussion. As we know, doing research can make student become more independent and from group discussion they can share and exchange their idea and knowledge to looking the best and logically decision. Whether we realized or not, it actually can increase good relationship among different races of student. Secondly, by giving pop quiz and examination. Normally, it can test student understanding of what they have learn in the class. From this test, we can know how many the student are good and weak. Thirdly, doing role play in the class. From this way, they can more enjoyable and make cooperation with each other to ensure what they are doing is success. Not only that, it can make them learn more effectively and efficiency. The last is through debate. This part are very important and interesting way that can challenge the student to think critically and logically. Other than that, it can increase self confident of student and automatically they will not having problem while teacher asking question spontaneous.
Question 3
The aims of test and assessment is totally to measure person knowledge, intelligent in a systematic way. For the example, teacher will give test to discover the learning abilities of their student and the impact is teacher can see how well the student have learned in particular subject. Besides, the aims is to diagnose the strength and the weakness. This is because, it can make the teacher know the weak learning and the good learning student. For the example, if student get low marks in their test, they need to improve their study skills and the way they study and also teacher have to changing their own teaching method to make sure that student can’t get low mark again in the next test. Not only that, the aims of test and assessment is also can make us to think more matured and always think out of the box. For the example, while we answer the difficult question in the examination, we need to think creatively and logically to ensure the answer is the best among best. Furthermore, it also can improve our communication skills. This is because, when we have to do assignment like presentation, public speaking, forum and other, it automatically can improve and increase our communication level when we talk in front of the other student. It also good for us, to make us practice to reduce our nervous and talk effectively. Other than that, the aims of the test and assessment is to play a vital role in the academics study. This is because, if there is no exam, the student won’t be alert and the scholar’s would have been less informed than they are today. It also can make the student evaluate themselves to ensure they can achieve own they goals.

I’m very interested want to share about the way we are assessed and tested in our philosophy in Education class. The first thing is doing research every week about our lesson. For me, it really challenge our self to looking and founding some information independently. It also make us to give some good effort while we searching the topic that we don’t learn before when we enter the class. From this kind, after we enter the class, we can more easily understand during teacher teach because we already know a bit about that topic. Secondly, it have discussion group and presentation. Actually, I’m very like to do this way because we can share and exchange our opinion through group discussion. From the presentation, it can make us to practice more good in communication and can increase our self confident and automatically can show how far we can cooperate in each other. Mostly, while we have group discussion, the result can show our relationship between different races student become good. Not only that, our philosophy education class also have their own blog that full of notes, discussion, quiz and so on. From this method, I’m surely they can become thinking creatively and logically, independent, talkative student, good in communication and relationship and more understand better what the subject that I have to teach them. Not only that, I’m also doing weekly quiz to make them can focus their goals and evaluate their performance week by week. If the students are active in the co-curricular fields and are doing well in the curricular subjects, the students can be considered as a well balanced and well-managed in sense of they can manage between study, duties and fun times. Teacher can get to know the students better through this way too, and if the students are found lack of participations, teachers should act as motivators and supporters to help to develop well-balanced students, as wanted in NPE and NEB.
The last but not least, also the most common one, is through examinations and monthly tests. Student’s academic performance and basic knowledge can be tested and graded through exams and tests given by teachers, schools and government. Teachers can identify good and poor students and can try to work out ways and method to improve the results and outcome of the students.
Question 3
The aim of tests and assessments are to grade the students according to their level of understanding towards the subjects or topics tested. This is useful for teachers and government to crack their heads off thinking of new ways and ideas always to improve the education system in Malaysia. If there is no testing and assessment system, it will be tough to find the reason or the focus on the matter faced by the students when they study, thus improvement are hard to be made. Plus, it is important for the teachers to know how much their students understand from the way they teach so that they can improve on their weakness in method of teaching to develop more and more students really understand the subject rather than memorizing for the sack of passing the exams. Next, the aim of test and assessment is to defer the school’s abilities in developing good students. The school needs to know their standing in the ranking of “Good School” and make improvement on it or maintain the good standards of school. Results from tests and assessments can help to raise the school’s good name or may affect the good image of the school. Moreover, the aim of tests and evaluations is to help the teachers to acknowledge on whether their skills and methods of teaching are suitable for the time being. Question 6
The way I were assessed and tested in my Philosophy in Education class was through constant questioning regarding the topic that are to be discuss for the day, quizzes such as what I am to answer now, presentation, my participation in our class’s blog, mid-term test and final exam. When I become an educator, I will test and assess my students through real story telling where I will test and evaluate my students through their way of thinking and evaluating certain happenings. For example, I would share some happening from my experience or from the newspapers that is closely related to the topic I wanted to teach, and ask my students’ opinions towards those happenings and with this, we will share many perceptions and opinions together, and they will be much interested on what is being taught that day. It will also be easier for them to remember the topic as it will be more to a story to be remembered rather than something to be memorized. In the same time, I am able to evaluate my students by their understanding and behaviors towards the topic, and students can also enjoy and have fun discussing and reacting towards the topic that is being taught that day. Yes, of course I can make tests and assessments fun because there are so many different ways I can try and use every time tests and evaluate them so they would not be bored with the same old stick-to-the-mud way used by teacher every time they teach in the class. Testing and assessment can be as fun as teaching and learning simply because it is a part of the teaching and learning process.
