in my opinion, without NPE, education system in M'sia would be as if there is no aims or goals that Malaysia have to obtain..
ReplyDeleteas a teacher, it's important for us to have a philosophy of our own that combines the 5 philosophies of education because, with the combination of the philosophies, we will find it easier to focus on what kind of society we would form in the future..
I am happy to be in this time(after the independence of Malaysia) because now, there is no need to worry much about the students can't get along with one and another..mixtures of students in the classroom make it easier for teachers to instill the feeling of unity among the students..

ReplyDeletemy comment on this would be that philosophy is related to education as it is related to the past education activity and with that we can change what was wrong and implement good education in malaysia. and i m happy to be at these time as we can choose what field of study we want to study and which school we want to go and study at. so we can make our oown choice. thats my commnet. thank you
hey all! im santhana rajendran...
ReplyDeletethe relationship between philosophy and education is very important to create a holistic and integrated manner individual. Both are focus on values, beliefs and attitudes in the growth process of people. As NPME stated, education in our country will produce an individual who balanced in every angle…
I like the education system after independence.
It because the education system after independence was eliminates the education level among different races. Everyone can study in national school and national-type school.
Our society become more united and strong when there is no gap between races in Malaysia. We also can learn more from past education system and repair some weakness in education system. That’s all from me.. if anything wrong.. Please correct me! Tq…
cool...
ReplyDeleteSo what are you trying to say Randeep? And Santhana what were some of the mistakes in the past with regard to the education system?
ReplyDeleteGiru, what is 'cool?'And why is it so?
By the way Giru where's your link? Can't find it!
Where the others? All very quiet...hmmm,marks are going to be wasted...
ReplyDeleteNanthini, there are many articles out there and it is very important not 'to cut and paste'.Take some time read through the article and post in the blog what you have understood.I'm sure you'd be able to understand something...give it a try and you'll see what I mean.
ReplyDeleteGiru why don't you suggest an education structure that is 'non political'.Remember,no political group in any country will give up an important Ministry like Education.By the way what are the problems with the present system?
ReplyDeleteIn my view, in past education system got vernacular schools which not allow all race study in same school and British government (British Colonial) separated us to don’t be united ... and classic teaching skills if compare now technology used in education system to improve our mentality.. There are some mistakes which we can improve now in our latest education system madam….

Most of you are practising the 'diam, diam syndrome'...I thought this blog is against such a 'philosophy'????!!!
ReplyDelete.::D-Dharan here madam im a wake no 'diam diam syndrome'.i like both educations style before and after independence because both have teach all educator what are the advantages and disadvantages of school with united and by race.when there were separate system of educations, the people learn how to stay together in the race, but as time past by their begin to separate.then after independence the people learn that to be together they need a united team, that's why came the after independence educations system.with a united team with all race..
ReplyDeletethis is why i like both..
Miss..
ReplyDeleteWhat I trying to say is…
The education system after independence is better than before..
Its because now days there are a lot improvement in our education systems…
No more sekolah pondok.. No more vernacular school.. We can continue our studies without any problem.. I like education system after independence which allow students learn about other races language and culture in national schools and also national-type schools.. tq
Much better,Shana...

ReplyDeletephilosophy are related with education because we must know the truth and guideline to focus aim and goals in education..i love education after independence because there are many changing in education system such as teaching method because nowadays we learn in various method are teaching by teacher as example using a power point, discussion, map point and what so ever to make class so interactive.tq
hie...m joice here...in my opinion, philosophy is one's way of life...or the way of living...education means the process of teaching and learning something. It doesn't have to verbally only...it can be in any form...the relationship between education and philosophy is without education, there will be no philosophy...that means the education system needs philosophy for the educators to follow and students to follow...i like the education after independence because there are many changes in the education system such as the place of study...before independence, there were sekolah pondok and vernacular school....but now after independence we have a proper school to study and the systems in the vernacular school have been changed....thank you...

ReplyDeleteEducation is an on-going effort towards further developing the potiential of individuals to face this world by more knowldgeable, intellectual and confidence. But philosophy is love of wisdom.Philosophy also help us as a guideline for our life.Based on this education and philosophy is more related with each other.Achievement of education will be achieve by following philosophy of education.
In my opinion,I will choose education after independence because the education system of this days are very systematic, increase the integrity among students and skills are using to teach different from the past.Students are enjoying in learning process because they are in independent in learning system.
Thank you.
Hmmm,where are the others........?

ReplyDeleteThe relationship between philosophy and education are they are interrelated. This is because if an individual have a philosophy in himself,he or she will be disciplined and with that he can suceed in the education.
I would prefer education after independence, because I think the education system after the independence are more effective and orderly. This is because after independence all the individual in this country are getting opportunity to study and no boundaries in studying.Examples, before the independence if a person fail form 3 exams(SRP) they cant proceed their studies but now eventhough an individual fail the UPSR exam they still can enroll to secondary school.Besides that, the material of teaching used after indepence are more convient to the students and teachers.Examples after independence like nowdays teachers are trying more new ways in creating the process of learning and teaching to be more fun and intersting.Like using the advanced of it in teaching process. It shows after independence the education standard are being more higher than before independence....
Thats all from me...If anything wrong, pls correct me...Keep in smiling....
Well,Nanthini, basically your article is about the relationship between Education and Philosophy.Philosophy helps educators answer questions such as 'what are schools for?',What subjects should be taught in schools and why?how should students learn?how to test/evaluate,etc....only one's own philosophy of education will help one in these situations....
ReplyDeleteLet me give you an example:a student does not do homework...so what do you do with such a student?punish him?cane him?...your philosophy of education will help you deal with the situation.
me kamalathevi bathumalai here in my opinion the education in malaysia is a continuous effort towards the direction of developing the potentials...so i like both education system..but i felt the old system is more better than new education system

ReplyDeleteEducation is learning of established thoughts. Whereas the philosophy is the thought which are yet to be established and is beyond the established educations or learning. this is wat i found in the google. so i think, philosophy kind of related with each other bt not dat much with education.
Philosophy as a subject is a separate discipline in the curriculum. Again the end of education paves a way for the beginning of one's philosophic life. In my views
Philosophy comes from experience & education from age.
I like this 21st century period …because in earlier education we ddnt get chance to get study abt other religion, culture and knowledge…and they study in the pondok…without knwg anythg that happeed around the…its lk being under the roof…
So I prefer and glad to say that our education had changed a lot….students get along wif other people frm diff religion and they understand about others culture and etc…
Itz al because of the edu at ths period… so I prefer the edu in ths period and proud to be Malaysian and will always support the’1 Malaysia ‘ team….:-)

ReplyDeleteDefinitely we all know what is philosophy and what is an education because its already taught by our miss. Philosophy and education are interrelated. As a human being we must have our own philosophy. Then only we can get our education. An example, as a student we have to punctual to class, study well, and be discipline to archive our goals in our life. So here be punctual, study well, be discipline its all our own philosophy. The achievement in education is our goals. So this is a relationship between philosophy and education.
I like to in after independent in the history of Malaysian education system. There have lot of reason. First, no more “sekolah pondok”. Now we got school building and also lot of improvement in area of technology. In season of “sekolah pondok” we don’t have fans, light, and computers and so on. But nowadays we have all the facilities and its encourage us to archive our dreams. Second is we got freedom to choose which school that we wants study. For example, the Indian students can study at SJK(C) or SK. The Chinese students can study at SJK(T) or SK. So, from here we can be ONE MALAYSIAN.
As we know philosophy is the love of wisdom . It is not to be studied rather it is something to do,it’s a way of life,a way of asking questions about problems, meaning and relationship. Its also a practice of making and assessing situations.Education is the process of educating or teaching. Educate is further defined as "to develop the knowledge, skill, or character of..." Thus, from these definitions, we might assume that the purpose of education is to develop the knowledge, skill, or character of students. Therefore philosophy and education are interrelated. When we have our own teaching philosophy that combine with 5 teaching philosopy. Its help the teaching & learing process runs smoothly. As an educator, we need have our own teaching philosophy to educate students towards to achieve the NPE goals and aim.
ReplyDeleteI like the education system after independent. Before independent there are no communication among all races in Malaya because of the separate education system. But after independent there are communication among different races in Malaysia under same schools. The study environment become happyly because of the differents races of friends. So, its help as always be together and become one unity under same roof.( SCHOOL)

ReplyDeletephilosophy is impotant to give better education.it's because philosophy used as guideline in learning and teaching process.
dicipliness create from philosophy should be guide teachers to create class environment to be interesting.some of the philosophy are give freedom to the students to learn independent.
i think schools after independent is much more better than schools before independent.now students are more freedom to learn and also the students are rights to choose their career studies.
tanx miss.... i understand now..
ReplyDeleteafter independent we have a good education system.before independant they used english as a medium of instruction and vernucalrs' school used their mother tongue but that time there is no unity amomg the people.those days not everyone got the chances to continue higher studies. but after independent the education systm change and give chance to everyone for studies.the students do well in exam and continue higher level education and as a prove we can see the students results.
ReplyDeletehello madam..
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, the relationship between philosophy and education is cannot be separated. This is because the education is very related with how philosophy as an educator and as student. without philosophy in education, the education will be not success and weak either in school or institute of higher education. As educator, we must have our own philosophy and we have to know how to use our philosophy in education.as we know, we have learned the teaching of philosophy. there are divided two in teaching philosophy. there is teacher center and student center. these teaching philosophy are important and must be implemented when we become an educator. we have to know how our philosophy help student in study, how to make the student fall in love in the subject, we have to know how make our class attractive and all these must be competencies by their achievement and effectiveness. in conclusion, without philosophy in education, like the tree without fruit..
philosophy and education are related each other.because its a way to get closer to understanding the truth of education.that means the education system needs philosophy for the educators and students to follow.and studying about the purpose, process, nature and ideals of education.in my opinion i think after independent education system is more better then before its because now, the education system in new formal and systematic which is the educational goals are to develop the potential of individual in a holistic and integrated manner.in addition the education system in our country to create unity among the other races. furthermore increasing use of technology tools in education system can improve the quality and standard of our educators and learners.
ReplyDeletein my opinion education and philosophy related each other because philosophy in education is study of general problems concerning matters such as knowledge, truth mind, language and
ReplyDeletevalidity.in addition i think the education system after Independence is good education system because, education in Malaysia is an ongoing effort.this focuses to the potential of individuals.education system after independent that schools return to the systematic and organized system that can bring a strong core curriculum and high academic standards.
education and philisophy are related to each other. why am i saying that because, philosophy is studt of general problems concering matters such as knowledgble, truth and etc. it also study of the purpose, process, nature and ideals of education. as an educator and student we should have our on philosophy to teach and for studying.
ReplyDeletein my opinion, the education system is much more better than the education system before independent.it's because before independent the british goverment(british colonial)established the vernacular schools and there were diffrent types of school that catered to particular ethnic groups. not all the student can learn in a same school. But after indepedent the education system is different because the NPE have a goals and aims to achieve. we also can studied in a school regadless of religious.... 10q.
batuma,
ReplyDeleteThe relationship between philosophy and education are they are related with each other. That means no philosophy no education.Education system needs philosophy for the educators and students to follow.Philosophy used as guideline in teaching and learning process in the classroom.Philosophy is studies of general problems concering matters such as knowledgble, truth and so on.I would prefer education after independence, because I think the education system after the independence are more effective. This is because after independence all the individual in this country are getting opportunity to continue thier study further more but before independence if we fail in SRP examination we should not to continue our studies to form 4.But now everyone get oppurtunity to study.Furthermore, after independence we all together gettin a good education without regaiding og religious.tq
What is the relationship between philosophy and education?
ReplyDeleteIn daily use the term, "philosophy," is not clear-cut. TV programs offer us the personal philosophies of various religious or political leaders. Other people talk about their philosophy in choosing a kindergarten or a college. Some people believe a difference in philosophy distinguishes between Roman Catholic and public schooling practices. Still others talk about Progressive or Back-to-Basics philosophy. We see then, that the word "philosophy" is vague, yet, asking someone for her philosophy on something is different from asking her how she feels about it. "How do you feel about divorce?" we ask. "I don't like the idea," comes the reply; "but my philosophy on divorce is that you have to consider whether it might not be better to give up rather than stay in a bad relationship." Pilosopher John Passmore separate out three common conceptions of philosophy: philosophy as wisdoms; philosophy as ideology; and philosophy as critical inquiry. These distinctions
help us sort out different traditions within what is called philosophy by the man-on-the-street (although only critical philosophy is understood to be philosophy in Passmore's own academic tradition). Within education, the term "philosophy" is casually used to cover a complex and varied group of traditions. There are at least three different traditions which are commonly called "philosophical".
What period in the history of the malaysian education system would you like to be in?
ReplyDeleteBefore or after independence? Explain and give reasons.
Education in Malaysia is monitored by the federal government Ministry of Education.[73]
Most Malaysian children start schooling between the ages of three to six, in kindergarten. Most kindergartens are run privately, but there are a few government-run kindergartens.
Primary education
Children begin primary schooling at the age of seven for a period of six years. There are two major types of government-operated or government-assisted primary schools. The vernacular schools (Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan) use either Chinese or Tamil as the medium of teaching. Before progressing to the secondary level of education, pupils in Year 6 are required to sit for the Primary School Achievement Test (Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah, UPSR). A programme called First Level Assessment (Penilaian Tahap Satu, PTS) was used to measure the ability of bright pupils, and to allow them to move from Year 3 to 5, skipping Year 4.[74]However, this programme was abolished in 2001.
Secondary education
ReplyDeleteSecondary education in Malaysia is conducted in secondary schools (Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan) for five years. National secondary schools use Malay as the main medium of instruction. The only exceptions are the Mathematics and Science subjects as well as languages other than Malay, however this was only implemented in the year 2003, and before that all non-language subjects were taught in Malay. At the end of Form Three, which is the third year, students are evaluated in the Lower Secondary Assessment (Penilaian Menengah Rendah, PMR). In the final year of secondary education (Form Five), students sit for the Malaysian Certificate of Education (Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia, SPM) examination, which is equivalent to the former British Ordinary or 'O' Levels. The oldest school in Malaysia is Penang Free School, also the oldest school in South East Asia. The government has decided to abandon the use of English in teaching Mathand Scienceand revert to Bahasa
Malaysia, starting in 2012.[75]
Malaysian national secondary schools are sub-divided into several types, namely National Secondary School (Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan), Religious Secondary School (Sekolah Menengah Agama), National-Type Secondary School (Sekolah Menengah Jenis Kebangsaan) which is also referred as Mission Schools, Technical Schools (Sekolah Menengah Teknik), Residential Schoolsand MARA Junior Science College(Maktab Rendah Sains MARA).
There are also 60 Chinese Independent High Schoolsin Malaysia, where most subjects are taught in Chinese. Chinese Independent High Schools are monitored and standardised by the United Chinese School Committees' Association of Malaysia (UCSCAM, more commonly referred to by its Chinese name, Dong Zong 董总), however, unlike government schools, every independent school is free to make its own decisions. Studying in independent schools takes 6 years to complete, divided into Junior Level (3 years) and Senior Level (3 years). Students will sit for a standardised test conducted by UCSCAM, which is known as the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) in Junior Middle 3 (equivalent to PMR) and Senior Middle 3 (equivalent to A level). A number of independent schools conduct classes in Malay and English in addition to Chinese, enabling the students to sit for the PMR and SPM as well.
As an interesting side note, the Pavilion shopping mall in Kuala Lumpur was built where a Malaysian National Girls' School once stood.
Tertiary education
ReplyDeleteBefore the introduction of the matriculation system, students aiming to enter public universities had to complete an additional 18 months of secondary schooling in Form Six and sit for the Malaysian Higher School Certificate (Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia, STPM); equivalent to the British Advanced or 'A' levels. Since the introduction of the matriculation programme as an alternative to STPM in 1999, students who completed the 12-month programme in matriculation colleges (kolej matrikulasi in Malay) can enrol in local universities. However, in the matriculation system, only 10% of the places are open to non-Bumiputra students while the rest are reserved for Bumiputra students.
There are public universities such as University of Malaya, Universiti Sains Malaysia, Universiti Putra Malaysia, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, International Islamic University Malaysia, Universiti Teknologi Mara, Universiti Utara Malaysia, Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka, Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia, and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. Private universities are also gaining enough reputation for international quality education and many students from all over the world are attracted to these universities. Such as Multimedia University, Universiti Teknologi Petronas, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahmanetc. In addition, four international reputable universities have set up their branch campuses in Malaysia since 1998. A branch campus can be seen as an ‘offshore campus’ of the foreign university, which offers the same courses and awards as the main campus. Both local and international students can acquire these identical foreign qualifications in
Malaysia at a lower fee. The foreign university branch campuses in Malaysia are: Monash University Malaysia Campus, Curtin University of Technology Sarawak Campus, Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campusand University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus.
Students also have the option of enrolling in private tertiary institutions after secondary studies. Most institutions have educational links with overseas universities especially in the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia, allowing students to spend a portion of their course duration abroad as well as getting overseas qualifications. One such example is SEGi university collegewhich partnered with University of Abertay Dundee. Malaysian students abroad study mostly in East Asia, Middle East, Oceania, Northern Americaand Western Europe.
International schools
In addition to the Malaysian National Curriculum, Malaysia has many international schools. International schools offer students the opportunity to study the curriculum of another country. These schools mainly cater to the growing expatriate population in the country. International schools include: the Australian International School, Malaysia(Australian curriculum), The Alice Smith School(British Curriculum), elc International school(British Curriculum), The Garden International School(British Curriculum), Lodge International School(British Curriculum), The International School of Kuala Lumpur(International Baccalaureate and American Curriculum), The Japanese School of Kuala Lumpur (Japanese Curriculum), The Chinese Taipei School, Kuala Lumpur and The Chinese Taipei School, Penang (Taiwanese Curriculum), The International School of Penang (International Baccalaureate and British Curriculum), Lycée Françaisde Kuala Lumpur (French Curriculum),Horizon
International Turkish School amongst others.
