Math & Science in English...

Reasons:

•It is an international language.

•It helps us to face and overcome the problems of globalization.

•We can’t follow the development of the world without improving our language.

•We need to expose our country to the world by mastering this language because it is an important medium of communication.

•If someone does not understand the English language, she or he cannot compete with people around the world.

•Most of the good revision books are in English and it is hard to get any Malay version books for this subject.

•It is more suitable to teach in English medium for the 21st century.

•It addresses national directives, for the students to have a good basic education, which will be every useful in their future in their secondary education, so that they can manage themselves in the new environment when they reach university.

•It is to prepare the work force to excel in globalization internationally and Malaysian students will achieve the goal of vision 2020.

•Students might understand more easily if they are thought in EMI in early age. It is good for their future too.

WHAT IS CLUSTER SCHOOL?

In a move to further strengthen national schools, the Education Ministry has designated another 60 schools as cluster schools. This brings their number to 120 which are 36 primary and 84 secondary schools. Education director-general Tan Sri Alimuddin Mohd Dom told the New Sunday Times that schools selected under the most recent exercise which is phase three of the cluster school program, were those that achieved a minimum 80 per cent mark in the “Standard for Quality Education in Malaysia Schools”. Evaluation based on the schools infrastructure, teaching and learning, administration, examination results, co-curricular activities, discipline and the schools’ relationship with their parent-teacher associations. Schools that won competitions organized by the ministry were nominated. The inspectorate of schools will visit the schools and make an evaluation. Then, a committee chaired by education director will pick the best among them. “The Clusters of Excellence Advisory Board evaluates the selections and approved them, with the final approval coming from the minister. The establishment of cluster schools is among the primary strategies of the National Education Blueprint 2006-2010. It is aimed at taking educational institutions to greater heights by granting schools unprecedented levels of autonomy in staffing, enrolment and curriculum. The first 30 cluster schools were announced by Education Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein in March 2007. Another 30 were subsequently announced under phase two of the program. Each cluster school can request special funds of up to RM500, 000 to assist in the running of the school. The schools get more autonomy in terms of finance. A school like SMK Victoria may need extra money to buy equipment for the school brass band, the schools could use the money to improve their infrastructure, buy computers, or carry out projects for their teaching faculty. For example, if a school’s niche area is music and it wants to hire a good music teacher, it can use the money to employ a teacher on contract. Schools interested in information and communications technology can use this allocation to hire professionals. They can even bring in teaching professionals from England to teach English in their schools. Cluster schools would also have more autonomy in terms of curriculum. For example, the technical division of the Education Ministry has signed memoranda of understanding with the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Chartered Institute of Management Accountants and Association of Chartered Certified Accountants. Students studying accountancy for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) exam can obtain certificates from these bodies. This means the schools add value to the subjects for their students. The students will take the minimum core subjects and have the option to take an extra course offered by these three bodies or other professional bodies. So, the principal has certain autonomy on subjects and gets to choose the curriculum for his school. Cluster school principals could “pinch” students from other schools, selecting those who excel in the cluster schools’ niche areas. For example, SMK Victor if’s niche area is its brass band. The principal can take in students who are good at that from other schools. The same goes for sports and games. Cluster schools are also given greater autonomy to decide the way they are managed. Principals of cluster schools can choose to introduce new subjects like English Literature. They also have the authority to select 10 per cent of students seeking entry into their schools. Cluster schools will also be encouraged to network with foreign educational institutions. Some of these cluster schools already have links with schools overseas. One example is the Malay College Kuala Kangsar, which has links with the Vajiravudh College in Bangkok. Judging by the number of parents who want to enroll their children in these schools, it is a success. Students from cluster schools have been participating in various competitions at national and international levels. Most of these schools have formed links with local and international institutions. Among the links established are with countries like Australia, South Korea, Singapore, China and Thailand. This year, two cluster schools, SK Ulu Lubai and Ba’ Kelalan from Sarawak, won first prize for Best Practices in the recent Commonwealth Convention of Education Ministers. Cluster schools had excelled at the international level by winning medals in tenpin bowling, chess, softball, rhythmic gymnastics and rugby. From the achievements mentioned and for a project that has been undertaken for only two years, I would say that cluster schools are definitely not a failure. Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who is also education minister, announced on Nov 13 that the ministry wanted to have 100 high performance schools by 2012, to increase the pool of dynamic human capital.

Educational Testing and Assessment
1.Testing and assessment are integral components of teaching and learning.
2.Two views of testing and assessment.They are the a)functional view and b)structural perspective.
a)Functional view-There are 3 functions of testing and assessment:
:i)placement :Beginning of testing to place students.
ii)diagnostic :to monitor/gauge effectiveness of teaching and monitor students progress.
iii)formative : testing done periodically during a course of study
summative: testing done at the end of a course of study

b)Structural view-normative assessment(normal distribution-‘the bell curve’)
ctiterion referenced assessment.

3.Methods of Testing and Assessment
The most common ones are as follows:
i)Examination-testing students under controlled conditions.
-test students retention of knowledge and comprehension.
ii)Observation-measuring skills and competencies.
-process and behaviours
iii)Continuous Assessment-assess students performance throughout the course.
-portfolio. The learner centred and mastery learning approaches usually employ this method of assessment as part of the testing and assessment process.
iv) Project Paper/Report Writing-A test that involves the student.This method of assessment measures both process and product and is a learner centred.

4.History of Testing and Assessment in Malaysia
Based on the recommendations of the Razak Report(1956),the Examination Unit was formed in the same year.
In 1957,it was renamed Examination Syndicate(Lembaga Peperiksaan).
In 1978,the Examination Syndicate took over from the Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate the responsibility for the Malaysian Certificate of Education(MCE).
There are 4 major national examinations.They are (a)Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah)at the end of the primary level(UPSR).(b)Penilaian Menengah Rendah(PMR)at the end of the lower secondary schooling,(c)Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia(SPM) at the end of the secondary level,(d)Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia(STPM) for the upper secondary level and Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia(STAM) for religious school leavers at the upper secondary level.There is also Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (ulangan)(SPM[U])for repeat SPM candidates.

Comment About Last Week Presentation....by Parames Mohan

Hai my dear frens...How are you guys...?? fine..?? Here i want to give my comments about our frens presentation last week.WOW...!!! Its really superb..!!! Fantastic..!!! Well done and congratulations to all my frens who did presentation that day..I really enjoy and i didnt feel bored...because the way you all guys teach us its really fantastic...and i really have fun from it..So here i want to give my comments about each group presentation on that day.Group 1..their teaching way is good but i really didnt enjoy and feel bored..because the topic they choose its more obout goverments,structures,system and law..Of course this topic is really important for us..bt i want to say is the way they teach us not interesting.So, they cn improve their teaching style with use other way such us group activity or presentation..Group 2..i really enjoy their teaching style..especially the Tom and Jerry cartoon..frm that cartoon they ask us to find nouns and adjectives..Wow..!! its really creative way they use to teach us..So, here they cn improve their teaching style with give students more activity and games..group 3...i really really enjoy..and its really interesting...The way their each group member present its really nice and creative..So, here they can improve their teaching way with doing other interesting activity...such as ask student create their own syair..So,frens here i just give my comments to you all guys to improve you all teaching style..if i say anyting wrongly, im so sorry...plz dun mistake me..you all are my frens...thank you....

The different ways that i have assessed and tested in our philosophy class is which is every day we duing research about the topic and duing discussion in group is really give me more benefit and i can understand very well.This is our respectfull madam teaching method that she use to teach us.This method is really effective which i can more understand about the topic and at the same time our madam come and ask question and explain the important point frm that topic to us to make us understand very cleary.From duing this kind of research i can improve my knowledge and also can share our opinion each and other and also communicate with them.Other than that it make me more independence,Thinking critically,rationaly and deeply about the topic.I really enjoy study our madam teaching style because is really different from other lecturer.I really have fun frm our madam teaching style.This is our madam philosophy.Other than that,our madam also teach us to use blogsytem.I really enjoy to participate in blogsystem because we can chat with our madam and also can ask question about the topic that we research that day if we didnt understand.Other than that, we also can send our comments,opinions and ideas about our discussion topic or prensentation.Its really give me benefits and make me easily to understand.If i will become an educator, i will use same method that our respectfull madam use to teach us.This is because when she use this kind of method i didnt feel bored and i enjoy my study.Its really interesting and challenging.So, i also make my students didnt feel bored and enjoy their study and also have fun from that teaching method.If they have fun from their study, they can easily understand and remember easily.Other than that i also encourge my students to do mind maps.This method is really effective for students which is students should do mind map at home about the chapter that students have to discuss on that day.Its really give benefits to students which they can understand very well and also they know which is important points in taht chapter.they also can remember easily and clearly.Other than that i also will use an effective and interesting ways such as teaching students with use powerpoint slides and giving them group work.It cn make them to communicate each and other and also have cooperation in their group.

Moreover the structural of testing and evaluation is created by the government of Malaysia(Ministry Of Education). Furthermore,some of the structural testing equipment is unique. Hence,this method is most probably importance to make sure the students enjoy,study well and can achieve a good result.

They are a few way that the student can be tested and assessed. Firstly,by making a quis. Generally,they are two type of quis the educator can tested and assessed the students. Such as a formal-quis and non-formal quis. Formal-quis mean that,we should make a command quis. For example we have to make one quis that are required the hole topic that we have teach to our student. And for the non-formal quis mean that we have to give a simple quis. For example,after we have finish teach one chapter or topic we should give our student a quis. The aims that we want to achieve by making this quis is we want to make sure our student understand well about the topic that we teach. Over role, the quis that we make is actually show that it's one of the way that we can use to tested and assessed the student. Second,is making a presentation. They are two type or presentation. Such as an individual and a group presentation. Individual presentation mean that it show the one person have to make a presentation by herself. And for the group presentation mean that we should divided the student into such a small group of 5 or 6 members in each group. After that they should present the topic that we give in group. This is also such one of the successful way as an educator should take to tested and assessed the student. Third,is by giving our student an assignment. Totally,the assignment that we give to our student most probably the way how we can tested and assessed our student in school. Furthermore by making a assignment as an educator we should have to make sure that our student do the assignment well and have to submit it on time. Lastly,is making a lot's of exercise. Generally, by making a lot of exercise as and educator we want our students understand well about what we have teach them. By the way as an educator we want every of our student to be success in their study.

The exam unit is a Malaysia Examination Council that is totally statutory body under the Ministry Of Education. Moreover the exam unit was formed or establish on 1st February 1980. Generally they are four difference of major examination in our country(Malaysia). Such as UPSR,PMR,SPM and STPM. In PMR,they are 8 subject that the student should be tested. Moreover in PMR examination,SNS(Sains)subject and MAT(Matematik)subject is a compulsory subject in PMR. A part from that the SPM examination is sited by the student that have finish study in form 5.SPM is Sijil Penilaian Malaysia. Lastly is STPM,STPM is Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia that taken by the form 6 student. The student have to past this test first before they continue their study in degree in the University.

When I became an Educator,I have many way that I take to test and assessed my student. Furthermore when I become an Educator I want to make the test and assessed become more interesting and fun. The main objective is,I want to make sure my student can understand well and enjoy while they are study. A part from that,the way that I take to test and assessed my student such as by using a best teaching method,make a group discussion,make a weekly quis and making a presentation. Firstly using the best teaching method,for example when I will use the moden technology method such as making an interesting and fun slide that easy for the student to understand well. More than that,I will aloud the sing and study. Basicly I choose this teaching method because the best teaching method 100% can attractive the student enjoy study. The different major national examinations in our country that provide by our goverment that ministry of education is UPSR,PMR,SPM AND STPM.This 4 exams are compulsory for all students in our country.But for STPM it is not compulsory but it depends to students achievement.If they got good result in SPM they cn continue their study in form 6.UPSR is for primary school for standard 6 students which is in SJK,SJK(T) and,SJK(C).Student should take Bahasa Malaysia.Bahasa English,Bahasa Tamil for SJK(T) students,Science,Mathematics and Bahasa Cina for chinese students tat is SJK(C).Secondly is PMR for form 3 students.This exam is important and compulsory for all student in form 3 which cn make them to choose their streamed.Either arts streamed or science streamed.Thirdly id SPM(Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia). In this subject students should pass in BM subject then only they cn get their certificate and also apply for the job.STPM(SIJIL TINGGI PELAJARAN MALAYSIA)is taken by form 6 students.Here got lower 6 and upper 6.Usually this form called as pre-university level.Students cn take this exam in upper 6.Only 3 or 4 subjects that student can take and must get good pointer to continue study in university.

The structural view mean is about a school system which is provide by ministry of education in our country.Our school system id really different frm other country.As we know,we have primary school.secondary school,and higher education that is university level.In primary school we have standard 1 until standard 6.This primary level education is compulsory for all student in our country.In standard 6 student have to take UPSR exam.In secondary school,we have form 1 until form 6.In the end of form 3,students should take PMR exam which make students to choose their streamed in form 4 and 5.They are 2 streamed.That is arts streamed and science streamed.In form 5 students should take SPM exam.This exam is really important and it compulsory for all students in our country.It also make students either they continue study in form 6 or college.Form 6 is pre-university level which student should take STPM exam in upper 6.This is make students either they can continue their study in higher education that is in university either goverment or private.

Apart from these aims, making guidance decisions also can be stated as aim of testing and assessment. In school environment, teachers will be the roll model and reference for students. Through this approach, teachers will be a motivator or guide for students. To provide an effect full guidance teachers need to test and assess student achievements, attitudes, and impersonal characters. Usually teachers guide students in making decision on their further studies based on their(students) ability, guidance in vocations, and also in solving personal problems. Finally, the aim of testing and assessment the students is to help the school management to maintain their position as high standard management. School management effectiveness will be seen through the structure of management and well organized documentaries’. Usually school management documents are based on the students records and achievements. School management should have students achievements in more details. Its only categorized as validity information if its prepared by the teachers through the testing and assessment. The validity information about the students achievements will help the management to make an accurate administrative decisions regarding students activities (to improve achievements) and provide accurate details to be checked by author peoples such officers from ministry of education.
4) the exam unit was formed on 3 may 1956. At 1957 the exam unit were rename as Malaysian Examination syndicate(MES). Apart from renaming the unit its also given some responsible regarding the examination. Malaysian examination syndicate(MES), is fully responsible in planning examination, sitting position, and prepare question for the examination. Its can be stated as an organization that responsible conducting national level of examination.
5) Malaysian education system is well structured with its own philosophy. Through Malaysian national philosophy of education, we can noticed that Malaysian education system is an ongoing effort to develop potential of individual. There are four types of national types examinations. The primary stage students need to sit primary schools test and assessment UPSR (ujian penilaian sekolah rendah). Students need to study until standard 6 among six years to be seated for this examination. Basically they could sit for 5subjects in national schools(sekolah kebangsaan) and seven subjects in national level Indian and Chinese schools (sekolah jenis kebangsaan). Base on the result students will move to the secondary schools. There will be a term that whereby students whom did not pass national language(bahasa Malaysia) need to enter re-move class at secondary level. Otherwise they can move, straightly to form 1.students need to sit for secondary lower level test and assessment PMR (penilaian menengah rendah). Base on the result students will seated to upper level secondary education base on vacation skills and knowledge. At the end of upper level of secondary school education students need to sit for SPM(sijil pelajaran Malaysia)(national education certificate).base on the results students may go to working field or pursue their upper study in diploma or STPM(sijil tinggi peperiksaan Malaysia) or known as Malaysian higher level education certificate .STPM or STAM is the last major education that compulsory for every individual. This STPM/STAM certificate also have same qualification with diploma. These are the major national examinations.
6)-Philosophy in education is an interesting class which well organized by our respectful lecturer miss.Saradha nair. Through my experience in unitary among 2semesters pursuing my degree , I can said philosophy in education is class is totally different with other class. As a lecturer whom have experience tutoring foreign students in abroad universities, miss Saradha apply foreign class base and giving priority to create cheerful classroom to ensure the students enjoying the lesson meanwhile get rid of boredom, love the subject and become more independence to absorb the knowledge. By the way of asking students do research regarding the lesson that going to be discuss in class, students working personally to get knowledge without depending to others. Through this way she test and evaluate the students independence towards absorb the accurate and effect full knowledge without belonging to others. Apart fro asking students to do researches, she also test and assess students by asking students taking part in blogging system. It is valuable pedagogical methods. By through this she testing students ability in using ICT as medium of finding information, and apply concept of sharing and caring. Besides that, she also testing and assessing students through the students participation in conveying ideas and opinion during the discussion and presentation. She always post question to students to ensure the students involve in conversation. She use “answers base question” style that’s asking question regarding the answer given by the students to ensure the students improve in communication, and clarify about their answers. Besides arrange discussion in classroom, she also post some discussion in blog to ensure the students always exchange their ideas to develop their cognitive process. These are the major ways that miss saradha nair test and assess students in philosophy class.
-I will practiced few methods in testing and evaluating my students. First of all, I will evaluate my students by conducting own prepared examination that’s will be checked base on contents and not fully followed answer sheets. Students need to answer my question in structure form to ensure they can bring whatever they have in their mind. Sometimes students understanding can create new ideas and or answers that’s really logic and can acceptable. So that the marking scheme should base on theory only but also must be based on understanding. Their marks will expose the reality of their self. Other than that, I also will test and evaluate my students based on their feedback. Feedback is an important task in process of learning and teaching. Its also express the students understanding and outcomes of teaching process. Moreover I also will apply some methods like quizzes, questionnaire and surveys base form of question to evaluate the students. Basically this three task are simple to answer. If students are really good in answering question by this format means the lesson have and effective outcomes. Surprise quizzes without any announcement also will be practiced by me to evaluate the students. Apart from these methods, I also will apply two way communication in order test and evaluate my students. Communication is an important task to expose student ideas and opinion. I also will organize individual presentation, group discussion, debating to ensure students communication is not breakdown and lead them to think creatively and critically.
-Yes. Of course regarding ,Malaysian education system, the education should develop cheerful environment to produce an effect full individuals whom can contribute to the unity of Malaysian and developing of family, country and nation. Now a days, Malaysian students are always attack by examination fever. They feel that examination is really touché ring. Basically in secondary school, students need to sit for examination about four times compare the students whom going to be sit for public examinations more than that. Its really make the students mentally disturbed and its could affect their health condition and results. To overcome this problems, I think that test should not disturbing or affect students achievements but can make its as fun as possible to ensure the outcomes are really good in order. Schools can conduct two times only of examination in a year that, once in mid of year and another one at the end of year. Apart from this two times of examination schools can conduct other examination in presentation base forms or quizzes base forms to make test and assessment are fun. Other than that, indicating colorful pictures, into examination papers and creating cheerful environment of examination wall also make the test as fun as possible and its lead to students achieve flying color results. Apart from this examination, quizzes and presentation base form test and assessment also should conduct in free of order without any rules and regulation to encourage students creativity.

dear mam n fellow frens
last week presentation is really fantastic.ur guys really hav potential to be a good teacher.the 1st group presentation is nice.but if they use more materials such as powerpoint slides, puzzle, mind-mapped to present it will be more attractive n we won't get bored easily.2nd presentation very very great.u guys hav dojne a great job.congratulations!!!i love the way or method they use to deliver the message to the class.i love the tom and jerry cartoon was used to teach the verb,pronoun,preposition
and so on.3rd presentation also very nice.if all teachers use the method to teach syair n sajak like this,sure all student will fall in love with that particular subject.this are my overall comment about the presentation.if got any mistakes im sorry frens.

Hai dear mam n fellow fens, actually last week presentation is fantastic and i wish congurats to all of u.i also would like to give some comments on the presentation thats present last week.
1st group-they have very gd effort in translating bm based words in language.they also very gd job but they should use any other effective way such as powerpoint slides in mind-maps style,producing handouts and so on.
2nd group,very enjoyable group.i really enjoy the lesson because they includes music and cartoons tom and jerry.very enjoyable lesson# n i give u 3stars***(*!*).this groups have their own creativity but they should concerntrate on technical problems, and the way they conduct their activities.They also should look into thier voice projection.
3rd groups like mr.been's group...their act make us really happy n laugh uncotrolling.their materials also good.but they should concerntrate about their act such (guys) teachers(???????) act like to soft and express like ****.y cant they act like normal guys teachers and get teachers attraction?its also lead to some students miss-use it....otherwice their presentation super...
